a vision of excellence

Dr. Eric Nilsen, O.D.

Since 1998, Dr. Nilsen has been growing his practice around the belief that there is always an opportunity to exceed his patients’ expectations about eye care. Personalized, friendly service and attentiveness have become hallmarks of Dr. Nilsen’s patient care, earning him a reputation as one of Richmond’s top Optometrists. But Dr. Nilsen will be the first to admit that it takes a team of professionals to deliver the above-and-beyond service his patients enjoy. Dr. Nilsen, a native of New York, graduated from S.U.N.Y. Albany with a B.A. in Biology, minoring in Psychology. He earned his Doctor of Optometry from the New England College of Optometry in Boston in 1997.

In addition to his friendly demeanor and total dedication to helping his patients see better, Dr. Nilsen is an expert at finding the perfect contact lenses for patients even those who had been told they could never wear contacts. During his free time, Dr. Nilsen enjoys participating in high performance driving schools, kayaking, biking and being entertained by his two crazy dogs (note: not an official medical diagnosis).

Dr. Alexandra Nilsen, O.D.

Formerly Dr. Alexandra Cavin, Dr. Nilsen completed her undergraduate work at Ramapo College of New Jersey where she earned her B.S. in Biology while minoring in Spanish. She earned her doctorate in Optometry from Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia in 1997. She completed her post graduate residency at the Hampton Veteran’s Hospital here in Virginia. Her residency provided extensive training in the diagnosis, management and treatment of eye disease and the opportunity to lecture and teach other optometrists in the community. Dr Nilsen is known for her compassionate way with patients and thoroughness in eye care. She will take the time to talk to you about your visual needs and find a solution for you. Whether its one day contacts for the part time wearer or distance glasses for the avid golfer she will help you find a solution for your eye care needs.

Dr. Craig Perry, O.D.

After obtaining his B.S. in Zoology and a B.A. in Psychology from Ohio State University, Dr. Perry earned his Doctorate in Optometry at the University of Missouri, St. Louis College of Optometry. Since completing his education Dr. Perry has established a diverse background, having worked in private practices, geriatric optometry and laser vision correction facilities.

Dr. Perry has conducted research and published a number of scholarly articles in Optometric journals. Combined with his range of experience, his scholarly leanings have made him a huge asset to Nilsen Eye Care. Dr. Sciullo earned his Doctorate of Optometry in 2015 from Indiana University, and his passion for optometry is derived from personally having a rare eye condition as well as his passion to help others and to develop lasting relationships with his patients. Because of his personal eye history, he has a particular interest in fitting specialized contact lenses for those who have a similar condition or have had challenges with contact lenses. No matter what your eye condition, Dr. Sciullo is dedicated to working with you and looks forward to serving your eye care needs!

Dear Dr. Nilsen,
I wanted to thank you for the services rendered at Nilsen Eye Associates for my son John. John is twelve and your staff was particularly friendly and helpful in fitting John in a very cool frame, and lenses that he shows off to his friends at school! Your staff took a potentially tough situation for a twelve year old and made it a very positive one! He likes his glasses so much, he rarely wears his contacts. Thanks again, we'll see you again next year.
