Special Purpose Eyewear

Most people have one pair of glasses for everyday use, but in certain cases you may need to use a different pair of eyeglasses to better suit your needs.

The type of specialty eyewear you need depends on the specific activity you are using them for. We will take a look at a few different cases where special purpose eyewear can be beneficial:

Glasses When Using Computers:

Maybe you spend a significant amount of time in front of your computer and you are beginning to feel eyestrain, muscle strain, and fatigue as a result of your computer use. Computer glasses may work best for your eyesight needs. These glasses include lenses that are designed to increase your vision at close-up and intermediate distances when you are doing computer work. Eyewear that is computer-specific will provide the best eyesight correction to reduce eye strain.

Reading Glasses:

When you wear bifocal glasses, you may have to tilt your head back in order to see what you are reading. This is usually fine for most things, but if you are reading for a long period of time, this may bring you discomfort. Purchasing a pair of reading glasses will allow you to read comfortably without having to adjust your eye position.

Protective Eyewear:

Working in the yard or with power tools could lead to serious eye injury as a result of high-speed projectiles. Flying debris can result from lawn mowers, power trimmers, leaf blowers, grinding tools, or even hammering a nail. Safety glasses are necessary during these activities to best protect your eyes from injury.

Eyewear for Sports:

Want to have an advantage during your athletic activity? Regular eyeglasses may be uncomfortable or could fog up during high levels of physical activity. Sports eyeglasses are made to fit comfortably on your face, and stay in place as you move. You can also purchase tinted lenses that will provide more clarity during your sport. For example, a certain tinted lens may allow you to see a golf ball or tennis ball more prominently than a regular eyeglass lens.

Eyeglasses for Driving:

There are two different types of glasses you need when it comes to driving a vehicle: sunglasses made for driving, and prescription eyeglasses made for driving. Most sunglasses for driving use polarized lenses that deflect the glare of the sun, and special tints that enhance colors and contrast for safer driving. Sometimes the sun’s glare makes stoplights difficult to see, but special tinted lenses enable you to see the color of the stoplight more clearly than you would if you were wearing regular sunglasses

When you are driving at night with your everyday eyeglasses, you may notice a glare from car headlights that could be distracting as you drive. Eyeglasses for driving at night include an anti-reflective coating on the lenses to decrease glare from car headlights and street lights. This will allow more light to reach your eyes and provide you will a clearer view of the road when driving at night.
